The digitization of education has had a significant impact on the right to education. With the increasing availability and accessibility of digital resources, more people than ever before have access to educational materials and courses. This can help to level the playing field and ensure that individuals from all backgrounds are able to receive an education.
However, there are also concerns about the potential negative effects of this trend. Some worry that too much reliance on technology could lead to a decrease in face-to-face interaction between students and teachers, which could impact social development and critical thinking skills. Additionally, there is the risk of increased inequality if not everyone has equal access or ability to use digital platforms for learning.
Overall, it's clear that digitization is changing how we think about education in fundamental ways - but it remains important for us as a society to continually evaluate how these changes may affect our basic human right to education.
Digitilization in Education can improve the learning experience for students, teachers and other people involved in the process. Digitilization can help improve engagement and accessibility through interactive and customizable learning.
Here are some effects of digitilization in education:
Flexible learning: Students can learn without the need for in- person lessons. This flexibility allows students to manage their time well and improve their productivity.
Teaching digital citizenship: Schools are teaching students the principle of good digital citizenship. This empowers students to embrace the full capacity of technology.
Better engagement: Digital analysis can help educational institutions understand how engaged students are with specific parts of their course, or the institution as a whole.
Digital literacy awareness: Digital media literacy education teaches students how to discern messaging techniques.
Digitilization can have both positive and negative effects on society:
Positive effects
Improve quality of life
Reduce unemployment
Increase access to public services
Increase manufacturing efficiency and productivity
Upgrade the customer experience
Give students more control over their education
Negative effects
Increase internet dependency
Degrade personality
Decline mental health
Increase income differentiation
Increase state control over income and expenses
Increase data security concerns
Increase terrorism and crime
Increase social disconnect
Increase manipulation of digital data
Increase copyrights and plagiarism
Increae fake accounts and anonymity
Right to education: The Right to Education Act (RTE) is an act of the Indian Parliament that was enacted on August 4, 2009. The RTE describes the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 years old. The act is based on Article 21A of the Indian Constitution, which was inserted in 2002 by the 86th Constitutional Amendment.
Article 21A states that the state shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of 6 to 14 years.
The RTE provides for:
Reimbursement for unaided schools that carry out the RTE duties
No capitation fees and screening procedure
Prohibition of deployment of teachers for non-educational work, other than decennial census, elections to local authority, state legislatures and parliament, and disaster relief
The RTE applies to all elementary schools in India. The Haryana Government has assigned the duties and responsibilities to Block Elementary Education Officers–cum–Block Resource Coordinators (BEEOs-cum-BRCs) for effective implementation and continuous monitoring of the RTE in the state.
The Supreme Court decision settled the case, justice Kuldeep Singh and R.M.Sahai:
‘the right to education is the core of the right to life and is directly related to it, and life with dignity can only be guaranteed if education plays an important role”
Later, the power of this decision J.P. In Unnikrishann v. The state of Andhra Pradeshwas reconsidered and it was as follow:
“The right to education means the right of citizens to call on the state to provide educational facilities according to their financial capabilities”
Digitilization of modern education: problems and solutions: The digitization of modern education has brought about a number of problems and challenges. One concern is the potential for increased inequality, as not everyone may have the same access or ability to use digital tools for learning. Another issue is the risk of technology becoming too central in education, which could lead to a decrease in human interaction and negatively impact social development.
However, there are also solutions being developed to address these challenges. For example, efforts are being made to ensure that educational materials are created with accessibility in mind, so that they can be used by students with various disabilities. Additionally, educators are experimenting with new methods of using technology alongside traditional teaching approaches in order to create a more balanced and effective learning experience.
As we continue adapting our education systems to this new age of digitization, it will be important for us to stay vigilant regarding any negative impacts while seeking innovative solutions that meet the needs of every student.
Conclusion: The effect of digitization on education is a complex and multifaceted issue. While it brings many benefits such as increased accessibility and innovative approaches to teaching, there are also challenges related to inequality and over-reliance on technology. It's important that we continue to address these issues through legal frameworks, policy decisions, and innovative solutions in order to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality education in the digital age.
