MEN’s RIGHTS
** Author syeda ruqaiya jahan from sultan ul uloom college of law Hyderabad
When we talk about “RIGHTS” we see human rights, women rights , children protection rights etc .., but we never talk about men’s right, male rapes, male sexual or physical abuse.., there is no detail or even a definition present for men .
In the year 1990’s The first men's rights organisations in India was formed in the cities like Kolkata, Mumbai and Lucknow this was grouped by Pirito Purush (The Persecuted Man), Purush Hakka Samrakshan Samiti (Committee for the Protection of Men’s Rights), and Patni Atyachar Virodhi Morcha (Protesting Torture by Wives). These groups demanded rights for men, particularly in husbands, and they shared the view that they need to reform few laws which have been use with the ill intention against men. The three groups were formed in response to purported abuse of Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code.
Later on a help line for men was started “Save Indian Family" was founded on 9 March 2005 by the unification of a number of family's rights organisations across India and on 19 November 2007, the Save Indian Family Foundation celebrated International Men's Day for the first time in India.
Men’s Rights Movement
The main reason why the mens rights movement have established because misuse of “pro-women” laws, supported by the biased Indian legal system. According to men’s rights activists, the laws such as Section 498A, 375, and 376 of the Indian Penal Code, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, etc., have often been misused to extort men. According to them, most cases filed under these sections are false cases of women harassing men. They prove their arguments with the number of vindication.
MEN CAN BE VICTIMS TOO
Yes, men are also victims of harassment , victims of abuse, victims of violence and rape too . In the indian law there is no where mentioned about the men’s rights except in the section 377 of ipc which states about Unnatural offences. Whoever voluntarily has carnal inter-course against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
But no one talks about the men sufferings :
Just because of society
Or either on the comments on that person by the community
Domestic violence against men data
Surveys conducted by Save Family Foundation and My Nation Foundation, between April 2005 and April 2015 surveyed almost 1,00,000 men during that one year over the internet. From which the found out that About 98.2% of men had faced serious domestic violence from their wives and in-laws. physical, verbal, economical, sexual, mental, emotional, and financial abuse are the violence that men face.
The order of violence based on the affected men:
• 34.3% of men were affected by economic violence.
• 28.6% of men were affected by physical violence,
• 27.5% of men were affected by emotional violence
• 20.4% of men were affected by sexual violence.
• the lowest violence that all the men surveyed faced was verbal abuse.
The report aims to highlight that male suicides have increased since the "pro-women" laws came in. The reason given is the blatant misuse of the law. To add credibility to the movement, women advocating for men's rights also operate through social media, messaging the need to recognize men's right.
Conclusion:
To whom should we blame for all this?
No support from the society and no protection of laws for men. The society and the government are not taking care of men, who are victims of domestic violence. It is a serious problem worldwide. Domestic violence over men is not punished or treated as an offence under any of the laws .
Opposite to it, special provisions given to women for their protection are framed in such a way so as to harass men.
its goals and its aims is on the rise with the woman puerile making false allegations against their husbands with the purpose of getting rid of them or simply hurting the family. The each and every family member get humiliated and mentally disturbed by this which can also leads to many serious health issues . We live in the society where people love they physical respect compare to anything
Personal opinion
I am not opposed to any of the protections rights
I am opposed to misuse of it . Which will grow more crime rate . There are many females who really need help as well as there are also many males well . Gender equality should also be considered in protecting and welfare laws . In India men aren’t even allowed to cry in their childhood then how can we expect them to express themselves in public allow them to express with the formation of laws , help centres in mental and physical abuse. “MARD KO DARD HOTA HAI” and that also affects the family and gets highly objectified by society.
